Lucie Aubrac

French School Teacher and Resistant

Born: June 28, 1943

     The daughter of a Maconnais wine grower, she married Raymond Samuel "Aubrac" in 1939. Lucie joined the Liberation-sud resistance with her husband in 1940. She led the commandos who freed Raymond and three other resistants from Montluc prison in October 1943.

     Aubrac served on consultative committees of the Provisional Government and was in charge of organizing departmental committees of liberation. She returned to teaching after her degree in history, revoked under Vichy, was restored.
